Introduction
It sounds very simple. You have your camera, press the button and voilá, you just made a picture. Easy, right?
But what actually is a photograph? Let’s get back to the basics on how it works.
Capture light
Now, this may sound boring, but I pormise it all makes sense and makes it way easier for you to understand photography.
The definition of a photograph is to capture light on a photosensitive surface like good old fashioned film or an electronic sensor.
Since light is hard to control and scatters everywhere once leaving it’s source, we need to find a way to direct it towards the photosensitive surface in a straight bundle. This is why your camera has a lens.
Long story short, to capture the light we need 3 things;
- A light source
- A lens to direct the light
- A photosensitive surface
